Electromagnetic interference reduction in printed circuit boards by using metamaterials: a conduction and radiation impact analysis

ثبت نشده
چکیده

This work aims to compare the implementation of two metamaterials for reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) in printed circuit boards (PCBs). Specifically, complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) and electromagnetic bandgaps (EBGs) were etched on the ground plane of a microstrip transmission line. Both techniques were compared as EMI filters, taking into account frequency response, signal integrity, and nearand far-field radiation with regard to a reference (solid ground) board. The results of electromagnetic simulations and experimental tests show similar EMI rejection levels in both cases, but CSRRs have a significantly better signal integrity response whereas EBGs behave as lower electromagnetic radiation elements in the operation frequency band.

Differential- and common-mode radiofrequency interference filters based on complementary split-ring resonators: a conduction and radiation impact analysis

This paper aims to analyse the design techniques of differential transmission lines loaded with metamaterials. Specifically, complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) were etched on the ground plane of a microstrip transmission line in order to mitigate both differentialand common-mode propagation in differential signalling. Several prototypes were manufactured and characterised in printed ci...

A Novel Metamaterial Structure to Reduce Far-End Crosstalk in Printed Circuit Boards

Far-End crosstalk is a common problem in a printed circuit boards when two transmission lines are in close proximity. This paper proposes a newly designed method to reduce the far-end crosstalk using metamaterials as a complementary split ring resonator (CSRRs). The CSRRs are etched in the ground plane and are used to control the radiated electromagnetic fileds. Comparative analyses are taken f...

Application Examples of Electromagnetic Field Analysis at Fujitsu

As the operating frequency of printed circuit boards (PCBs), multichip modules (MCMs), and systems-in-packages (SiPs) used in digital devices such as highperformance, high-end servers has been increased and as the operating voltage of large-scale integration (LSI) chips has been lowered, it has become difficult to implement countermeasures against electromagnetic interference (EMI)— which is at...

Some Remarks on the Prediction of Electromagnetic Radiation from Printed Circuit Boards Using the Method of Moments

Due to the increasing frequency of digital and/or analog signals the problem of radiation has become of serious concern to manufacturers and designers of electronic products. One of the most important aspects of 'electromagnetic compatibility' (EMC) is the compliance with radiation constraints (CISPR, FCC). Basically all eeects related to scatterers must be taken into account in order to predic...

Three-dimensional photonic metamaterials at optical frequencies.

Metamaterials are artificially structured media with unit cells much smaller than the wavelength of light. They have proved to possess novel electromagnetic properties, such as negative magnetic permeability and negative refractive index. This enables applications such as negative refraction, superlensing and invisibility cloaking. Although the physical properties can already be demonstrated in...
